Macchas 抹茶ーず

The group most likely came about while Yurina and Airi worked together on the first Berikyuu single, as derived from the context of their comments on the Kawaii girl Japan video uploaded on November 6, 2011.

Macchas was originally an informal unit formed by Yurina and Airi in 2011 because both of them love green tea-flavored (maccha) things. On November 6, 2012 they began official activities after it was announced that the group had been appointed Ujicha (Uji Tea) ambassadors by the Uji Chamber of Commerce.

The Uji Chamber of Commerce held open submissions for mascot designs, from which one would be chosen for use in promotion of their commodities. As part of their duties as Uji Tea♥Beloved Ambassadors (宇治茶♥大使 Ujicha Daisuki Taishi), Macchas was tasked with selecting, naming, and singing the theme song for this character.

As a group, Macchas was asked to review mascot design submissions and select one to be used for the promotion of Ujicha (Uji Tea). They chose a tea-themed, prince-like baby character and named it Oujichama (おうじちゃま). It’s a pun on oujisama (prince), ocha (tea), and a child-like way of saying sama (an honorific suffix). Oujichama is from ChaCha Oukoku (チャチャ王国), meaning ChaCha Kingdom.
