Cabbage Hakusho

Translation

We go on a small train along the tracks  
and then get on a bus to get there  
Whenever summer comes around  
we go to grandma's place on the countryside  

Normally I hate cabbage and eggplant   
but if grandma prepares them  
they get sweet and good and I like them  

"You, who's got such a weak body, if you eat the rice and vegetables  
that grandma makes you'll surely become stronger"  

She always prepared food in such a good mood; in the mornings, lunch and evenings  
And whenever she stands up  
she supports her back with her right hand  

"If you plant seeds, they'll accept the rain with love  
and then if you love them in return, they'll surely ripen," she said  
We must really be grateful to all life, musn't we  
Now, let's wash our hands and eat dinner  

I wonder how many seasons have passed  
since the day when grandpa left us  
Even grandma who was always so cheerful, got tired too  

Laying at the hospital bed she'd laugh  
and tell me there was nothing big  
and just keep worrying about me  

Since getting my license, for the first time yesterday  
I went to those familiar fields on my own  

"You always protected it during both rainy and windy days,   
but please relax now, leave it to me as from today."  

I want to become like my grandma, who would always  
think about the family, bring up life and give so much love  
I want to become like the ears of rice  
that always keep on sway flexibly through cold rain and strong winds  

Let's go to Haruna Shrine and the onsen that you wanted to go to  
Okay, from now I'll protect our rice  
We'll have fun doing it with everyone  
I'll prepare good food for you
