Facts

  • The group did not yet have a name when they were announced on January 2, 2015 at Hello! Project 2015 WINTER〜DANCE MODE!〜. Their name would be decided by the end of January, though for reasons not stated, the decision ended up being delayed until late February.

  • The word Kobushi (こぶし) from the group name comes from the Japanese magnolia flower (named 辛夷 kobushi). In the language of flowers, it represents friendship, trust and welcome. The word kobushi written differently (拳) can also mean a fist, so the name has a double meaning: refined like a magnolia, but with the strength of a clenched fist.

  • The group’s official name, Kobushi Factory (こぶしファクトリー), was announced on February 25, 2015. Shimizu Saki of Berryz Koubou, now a Hello! Project Advisor, helped with the naming of the group.

  • The word Factory (ファクトリー) from the group name is derived from Koubou (工房) in Berryz Koubou, which means workshop. With this name, the group is to carry on the spirit of Berryz Koubou after their hiatus.

  • The group’s first performance was Onna no Sono (女の園) at Hello! Project 2015 WINTER〜DANCE MODE!〜 on January 2, 2015.
